The recorded material includes new arrangements of old bluegrass and traditional tunes, banjo arrangements of music from outside the bluegrass arena, as well as original tunes composed by Ray Hesson.

Bluegrass Unlimited magazine, in reviewing one of Ray’s recordings, wrote: "To find dynamic banjo picking that is right on the cutting edge of perfection, one would have to go to extremes in order to surpass Ray Hesson".
